Parker Boot Company introduces a bespoke service as the western trend continues to gain momentum

Parker Boot Company is celebrating its 10th anniversary with the launch of a new made-to-order program.

Previously, customers came to the Houston, Texas-based shoe company to purchase completely customized western boots. According to founder Zephan Parker, the brand's shoes will now be made available to a wider audience looking to enter the Western luxury footwear market at a more affordable price.

And while the new made-to-order shoe collection may not be accessible to some — retail prices range from $995 to $1,895 — Parker told FN in an interview that all of his company's products are handmade by a team of 11 based artisans in Houston in one of the last remaining custom boot shops in the industry.

“With this new service, we wanted to offer consumers a high-quality, American-made product at a price that is approximately 60 percent less than what it costs to make your own custom boots,” Parker said. “We use the same craftsmen as our bespoke service, with the same quality, we just offer our boots in more general sizes and options for a quicker turnaround.”

The made-to-order range includes two different silhouettes in three colorways. First, the Caldwell, which pays homage to Parker's maternal lineage and the rugged cowboys of the Northwest. This boot offers the choice of a western box toe or round toe, a 10 inch heel and a feisty western heel.

On the other hand, the Kent boot exudes the spirit of weekend adventures and is inspired by Parker's father's affinity for the western urban lifestyle. Each silhouette can be customized in shades of black, navy or brown and is crafted from a range of premium leathers ranging from supple calfskin to exotic skins.

Customers can expect to receive their custom boots within four to six weeks of initial purchase, Parker said.

Given the brand's roots, it's only fitting that the first made-to-order collection is inspired by Parker's family heritage. Parker says the boot brand embodies his father's passion for music and his mother's cowboy family lineage from Northern California, Idaho, Montana and Utah.

Parker got his start in the business by studying at some of the top shoe stores in Texas, including Jass Boot Shop at Ray Jones, Kimmel Boot Company and Dave Wheeler of Wheeler Boot Company. Eventually, Parker and his family returned to Houston and opened a store near his childhood home. Initially the business focused on repair services but also offered custom handcrafted boots, but Parker's unique style and bespoke process quickly gained popularity, leading to the founding of Parker Boot Co. ten years ago.

“We want our company to be a major player in American manufacturing,” Parker added. “We ensure that all of our workers receive a livable salary that allows them to buy a home and raise a family. That's kind of been our central focus – making sure that our workers are given the opportunity to build things here in America so that they want to participate in this type of commercial industry.”

This expansion into custom boots couldn't come at a better time for the Western market. In fact, cowboy boots, hats and denim have been among the best-selling fashion trends for several years.

In the U.S., western boots generated total sales of $888.5 million in 2023, up 30 percent from 2019, according to Circana consumer tracking data.

“The cowboy boot is a cornerstone of American fashion. “So it’s really exciting to see Western styles being accepted as fashion-friendly garments rather than feeling like a costume item,” Parker added.
