Class is almost back in session as the cast of Community returns for a brand new film on Peacock.

The streaming service NBC confirmed in 2022 that the sitcom, created by Dan Harmon, would receive a film adaptation with many of its original cast members in the lead roles. The announcement fulfilled one of these Community's longest running jokes, like Danny PudiAbed Nadir often stated that the series would last “six seasons and one movie.”

Community premiered on NBC in 2009 and followed the antics of a study group at Greendale Community College. When will the “Community” film be released?

Which “Community” cast members are returning for the film?

At the time of the film's announcement, it was revealed that McHale would return as Jeff Winger alongside Pudi as Abed Nadir. Alison Brie as Annie Edison, Gillian Jacobs as Britta Perry, Jim Rash as Dean Craig Pelton and Ken Jeong as Ben Chang.

Donald Gloverwho played Troy Barnes, confirmed his return in an interview with Entertainment tonightstating, “It’s really just a scheduling thing [but] Count me in. Will Chevy Chase appear in the 'Community' movie?

What is the plot of the “Community” film?

The film's plot is currently being kept secret, although it will likely involve the former Greendale students meeting up at the community college for some hilarious banter.

However, Harmon did hint at what things fans shouldn't expect to see when the film hits Peacock, such as another of the series' famous paintball fights.

“You're running around a school with guns, which was a bad idea on television even back then,” he noted in a December 2022 episode of the podcast “Six Seasons and a Podcast.”

He added that the film would not follow a similar storyline to the series' final season, which saw the study group return to Greendale to help save the school.

Does the “Community” film have a script?

“I was told the script was finished,” Glover said Entertainment tonight in January 2024. “I haven’t read it yet.”

Harmon confirmed Glover's comments in an interview with diversityHe noted: “But I also have to say that Donald's sources are so unreliable because the script is always 'almost finished'.”

Teasing the film's plot, Harmon continued: “What can I tell you about it – it's set on the campus of Greendale Community College. I’m really excited and we’re almost done.”

When does filming start on the “Community” film?

McHale said he would be “shocked” if filming on the film didn’t begin “this year.”

“But I really think it's happening this year and probably next week,” he revealed during an interview with Deadline in March 2024. “Basically it's about meeting Donald's schedule.”

What did the “Community” cast tease about the film?
