Hart, Jordan receives weekly MEAC awards


NORFOLK, Va. (April 9, 2024) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) unveiled its weekly softball awards, with Howard University in Dover, Delaware recognizing a pair of Bison for their incredible performances. The announcement was made on Tuesday.

Second semester Maryn Jordan (San Diego) was named MEAC team player of the week as a freshman Thank you Hart (Los Angeles) was named the league's rookie of the week.

In the season win at Delaware State (April 6-7), Jordan batted .818 (9 for 11) with five runs scored, four RBIs, two doubles and a walk. In the win in game one, she went a perfect 4-of-4 with two runs scored and a double.

For Hart, she posted a .500 batting average (5 for 10) with three RBIs, two runs scored and a double. In the second game against the Lady Hornets, the Los Angeles native shot a flawless 3-of-3.

Second-year pitcher Julia Holt (Tucson, Arizona) received honorable mention after registering a 1.71 ERA with six strikeouts in 4.1 innings.

Norfolk State junior Rylie Gilbreath was named MEAC co-player of the week along with Jordan, while Maryland Eastern Shore's Ameenah Ballenger took home the conference's pitcher of the week.

Howard returns to The District for a three-game series against Coppin State on April 13-14. Saturday's (April 13) doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. on ESPN+, followed by a seven-inning contest on Sunday (April 14) at noon.
