Star RB Damien Martinez is entering the college football transfer portal


In the days before the spring transfer window opens, the college football transfer portal market is finding a veteran running back as former Oregon State rusher Damien Martinez will be looking for a new school to play for in the 2024 season, according to media reports .

Martinez was named to the All-Pac-12 first team a year ago and emerged as a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award, given each season to the best tailback in college football.

His decision to leave the Beavers program came after it became apparent that he would be interested in staying at the school. This was one of two remaining after the Pac-12 lost most of its members due to the conference's recent realignment. Washington state was the other.

Martinez ran for 982 yards on 161 attempts in 13 games in his first season at Oregon State, averaging 6.1 yards per carry and scoring seven touchdowns on the ground.

Last season, the former three-star recruit from Texas scored nine times while rushing for 1,185 yards on the ground and averaging 98.8 yards per game rushing.

Insiders report that Martinez would make an estimated $400,000 in zero earnings to play at Oregon State next season.

Martinez is one of two notable defensive linemen to enter the transfer portal in recent days, as former Ohio State rusher Dallan Hayden will also be looking for a new school for the upcoming season.
