Renée Zellweger returns for a new Bridget Jones film

There were four Bridget Jones Books, but there were only three Bridget Jones made films.

Do you see where this is going? I mean, you have to.

Around eight years after the most recent film Bridget Jones' BabyRenée Zellweger will return as the title character Bridget Jones: Crazy about that Boy, based on the book of the same name by author Helen Fielding. Also returning are longtime series co-star Hugh Grant and Emma Thompson. The film will also star Chiwetel Ejiofor and Leo Woodall.

The character of Bridget Jones began as Fielding's pseudonym for a column in the English newspaper The Independent. The column about the struggles of a single woman in her thirties became popular and then spawned the first book: Bridget Jones' diarywhich in turn became a bestseller and then a successful film adaptation starring Zellweger (who is not English) in the lead role.

Technically Crazy about the boy was the third of the four Bridget Jones books, but it was not adapted into the third Bridget Jones Movie. (That was Bridget Jones' Babywhich was also the title of the fourth book.)

The key name missing from the cast list of this new film is Colin Firth, who appeared alongside Zellweger in the previous three films. According to Wikipedia (which is never wrong) Crazy about the boy “set in contemporary London; Bridget is 51 and still keeps a diary, but also texts and experiments with social media. In the book it is revealed that Mark is Darcy [Firth’s character] had died five years previously and they have two children, Billy and Mabel, aged seven and five respectively.”

Bridget Jones: Crazy about the boy will premiere on Peacock on Valentine's Day 2025.
