Renée Zellweger returns for the fourth Bridget Jones film, Mad About the Boy


A new diary entry awaits: Renée Zellweger will return for a fourth Bridget Jones film, alongside former co-stars Hugh Grant and Emma Thompson.

Universal Pictures and Working Title announced this on Tuesday Bridget Jones: Crazy about the boy will adapt Helen Fielding's best-selling 2013 novel of the same name, in which the title character, now a widow, begins to master her life as a single mother in her early 50s.

Alongside Grant, who starred in 2001 The Diary of Bridget Jones and 2004 Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reasonand Thompson, who starred in 2016 Bridget Jones' BabyThe new film stars franchise newcomers Chiwetel Ejiofor (Love actually) and Leo Woodall (The White Lotus). Details about Ejiofor and Woodall's characters have yet to be revealed.

Michael Morris (To Leslie) directs Crazy about the boywhich is scheduled to be released in cinemas worldwide on Valentine's Day 2025 and in the USA on Peacock.

Zellweger received her first Oscar nomination for her leading role The Diary of Bridget Jones, and the romantic comedy franchise has grossed more than $760 million at the global box office. Zellweger's more recent film roles include murderess Pam Hupp in the NBC true crime miniseries The thing with Pam and Judy Garland in the biopic Judyfor which she won her second Oscar (her first was for Cold mountain).

In 2022, Fielding teased a fourth Bridget Jones The film was in the works. “I’m working on it and I really hope it will happen,” she said Radio Times. “Every film that gets made is a miracle – it’s really difficult to make films and do them well. But I would like to see him on screen.”
