Crunchyroll has acquired the North American and select EMEA and Latin America theatrical rights to the highly anticipated feature film spinoff Blue Lock The Movie – Episode Nagi. Crunchyroll and Sony have scheduled the North American release for June 28, 2024, with international dates yet to be confirmed. The current title is currently dated April 19th in Japan.

During its CinemaCon presentation, Crunchyroll showed a clip and a trailer and separately also released a teaser trailer (see above).

This is the first film in the hit anime sports series about students who dream of becoming soccer stars and joining the Japanese national team. The first season of the series debuted during the last World Cup.

The film, directed by Shunsuke Ishikawa, revolves around high school student Nagi Seishiro, who discovers his hidden talent for the beautiful game. One day he receives an invitation to the mysterious Blue Lock Project. There he will meet the best strikers from all over the country. Nagi's dream of becoming the best takes the prodigy into a world he has never known.

The first season of Blue castle follows the aspirations of 300 high school students who want to become top strikers and lead the Japanese men's national team to win the next World Cup. However, if they leave the Blue Lock training program, they will never be able to play for the national team again and their careers will be over.

Based on the award-winning manga of the same name by Muneyuki Kaneshiro, illustrated by Yusuke Nomura and published in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine with a circulation of over 30 million copies, the anime debuted in October 2022 and was one of the most popular series during its simulcast season.
