To monetize his wife's YouTube channel, Odisha teacher uploads questions before exam | India News


BHUBANESWAR: A government school teacher was arrested in Bhubaneswar on Saturday for allegedly sharing question papers of classes 1 to 8 with his wife, which they later uploaded on her YouTube channel to gain more subscribers and monetize her videos.

The accused has been identified as Jagannath Kar, 29, an assistant teacher of Gopinath Jew Nodal Upper Primary School in Jajpur district. Although his wife is a co-accused in the case, the police did not arrest her as she is a nursing mother of a baby.

The cyber crime police station registered a case on March 18 based on a complaint filed by Anupam Saha, project director of Odisha School Education Program Authority (Osepa). Osepa alleged that some unidentified persons leaked the Summative Assessment II Questionnaires of Grades 1 to 8 and circulated them on social media.

“We found out during investigation that on March 9, about a week before the exams, Kar collected the question papers from the Coordinator of Cluster Research Center, Gopinath Jew Nodal Upper Primary School, on behalf of the principal of Itara Primary School.” Before When he submitted the questions to school, he took them home with him. He and his wife scanned the questionnaires on a cell phone. On the same day, she uploaded the question papers on her YouTube channel,” said deputy commissioner of police Prateek Singh.

Police sources said the number of subscribers to her YouTube channel increased from about 5,000 to 30,000 after she allegedly uploaded the questionnaires.

“We learned that the couple wanted to make money from the YouTube channel by getting more subscribers, likes and shares for their videos. An investigation is underway to determine how much they earned from the YouTube channel, the DCP said.
