Tye Ruotolo ousts Australian standout Izaak Michell to retain his welterweight title

Five months after his ONE welterweight outing in which he won the world title against Magomed Abdulkadirov, Tye Ruotolo returned to the legendary Lumpinee Boxing Stadium to defend his crown for the first time ever.

Izaak Michell, an Australian newcomer and the No. 2 ranked 185-pound grappler according to, stood in his way to his sixth straight win.

Ruotolo attempted a takedown right in front of the goal, but Michell was able to use his strength and repel the attempt with ease. Michell dropped for his own takedown attempt, but Ruotolo reached out aggressively before getting back to his feet and separating. Fighting for position, Ruotolo exploded and forced Michell to retreat in defense, allowing the 21-year-old star to take him down and get straight into the race.

In an attempt to defend himself, Michell exposed his back, allowing Ruotolo to pin his arm under his chin and execute a rear naked choke. Michell couldn't break free and had no choice but to exit seconds before the halfway point of the 10-round match.

Official result: Tye Ruotolo def. Izaak Michell via submission (rear-naked choke) at 4:43.
