The best episode of Andor has just been written for director James Mangold's Star Wars film

This is just one of several Star Wars films that Lucasfilm currently has in development. Next up is The Mandalorian & Grogu, which takes the characters from the small screen to the big screen. Jon Favreau is directing the film, which Disney recently announced a 2026 release date. It will be the first film in the series since 2019's The Rise of Skywalker. Elsewhere, Lucasfilm chief creative officer Dave Filoni is working on a film that will presumably tie together all the series in The Mandalorian universe.

As for Willimon, this move is a sign of trust from Disney and Lucasfilm. Apparently they liked what he did with “Andor” so much that they are now entrusting him to help clarify the origins of the Jedi and the Force. Speaking to /Film in 2022 when the first season of Andor aired, Willimon explained that there are many ways to interpret this universe, but it all comes down to telling a good story.

“It's a work of fiction, and that's why we're trying to tell a good story first and foremost. “Since the year I was born, people have interpreted 'Star Wars' in all its versions in many different ways.”, 1977. And I think it's a credit to George Lucas and everyone who worked on “Star Wars” -stories, that it is such a big world that is open to interpretation, that you can have a lot of interesting and healthy discussions that come from storytelling.”

There is currently no release date for James Mangold's Star Wars film.
