The 2024 baseball season is here and Delaware County baseball has some top-notch talent in its ranks. Head coaches across the county have been thinking about which key players to keep an eye on during the 2024 season.

Head Coach: PJ Fauquher (Season 8)

2023 record: 20-7

Senior Sean Gibson – Infield

“Sean played quite a bit for us last year,” Fauquher said. “We expect him to be one of our best players this season. He was a big contributor last year, but I think with him being in the infield all the time and being an experienced player at the senior level, his numbers should see some increases.”

Junior Noah Loveall – Infield, pitcher

“Noah was a varsity guy last year, but was more of a role player,” Fauquher said. “His time will be longer and he will have more opportunities. He has made a natural evolution in his role in recent years. He only had a few people in front of him, but he's put in a lot of work and growth over the last few years and we've seen him gain confidence and a lot of preparation and he's ready for it.”

Head Coach: Heath Dudley (Season 1)

2023 record: 19-9-1

Senior Landon Weller – infielder

“Landon pitched a lot of innings for us his sophomore and junior years,” Dudley said. “But this season he has to take on a much bigger role. I expect and hope he has a big year for us.”

Junior Nate Luce – Pitcher

“He played and pitched a lot for us last year,” Dudley said. “I expect him to take the next step forward.”

Head Coach: Bob Wilson (Season 2)

2023 balance: 11-11

Junior Josh Wilson – second base, shortstop, pitcher

“He needs to take on a bigger role,” Bob said. “He’s on track to be number one or number two when it comes to pitching. He’s also just a natural leader, he has a strong arm, hits well, has a high IQ and in the future he will be one of the natural leaders on this team.”

Junior Ayden Ramirez – left fielder, first base, pitcher

“I can put it anywhere on the field and have no problems,” Wilson said. “He'll be able to fill a position and play it well, and probably as well as the starter he would replace, he's just an ultimate utility player.”

Muncie Central

Head Coach: Jason Kubick (Season 3)

2023 record: 9-14

Junior Logan Campbell – Pitcher

“Last year he was in the top three and the only returner in innings pitched, strikeouts and ERA,” Kubick said via email. “As far as hits go, he led the team in OBP and walks despite struggling to get hits. His ability to get on base helped us a lot last year. I see his improvement and confidence this season. On the mound he continues to work on the details of his pitching and we like what he has shown so far this spring.”

Sophomore Gage Emberton – catcher, third base

“He’s probably our strongest offensive player coming back,” Kubick said. “We expect him to take a step forward as a catcher on defense and have seen significant progress from him behind the plate as he has gotten stronger.” Offense was never a question for him. Last year it took him some time to get used to pitching at the varsity level, but once he did, he had several big hits for us last season. We look forward to him picking up where he left off last season.”

Wes Del

Head Coach: Daniel Hanson (5th season)

2023 record: 21-9

Junior Greyson Mealy – Catcher

“He led us in a lot of offensive categories last year as a sophomore. [.430 BA, .496 OBP, and 11 stolen bases]Hanson said. “We’re excited about his growth because he’s been working hard in the weight room.”

Senior Ty Freeman – infielder, pitcher

“Ty has been a starter with us for four years and will be throwing a lot of innings on the mound this year,” Hanson said. “He will be one of our most important players when it comes to pitching this season.”

Head Coach: Aaron Wells (Season 4)

2023 record: 10-15

Senior Griffin Smith – third base, outfielder

“Griffin will play an important role for us this year,” Wells said via email. “He will be our starting third baseman and will be an important rotational outfielder for us when other players are on the mound.”

Senior Jackson Clifford – Pitcher

“[Jackson] has been one of the better arms in Delaware County since his freshman year,” Wells said. “He also brings a wealth of experience and we plan for him to be at the heart of our Order every day.”

Head Coach: Devin Wilburn (Season 3)

2023 record: 11-17

Sophomore Everett Linn – infielder, pitcher

“[Everett] “He started 20 games at third base for us last year, which we didn’t really expect,” Wilburn said. “He just won the job and took it over. I expect him to take another leap forward as the leader of our team.”

Junior Gavin Case – outfielder, pitcher

“[Gavin] “He led our team in scoring last year and played midfield for us,” Wilburn said. “He got a lot bigger and stronger this offseason and gained about 25 pounds. I expect him to make a jump from a statistical standpoint by mixing in some extra base hits there as well.”
