UFC 300: “They exchanged DMs” – Conor McGregor texted Charles Oliveira to “rethink” the fight

Charles Oliveira's coach Diego Lima revealed this in a recent interview Conor McGregor had tried to dissuade “Do Bronx” from the encounter Islam Makhachev. Then-champion Oliveira faced Islam Makhachev two years ago at UFC 280 to defend his third title.

However, he lost the title after an uninspired performance in which he was outclassed on both foot and ground. As he faces Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 300 next month, Oliveira's trainer claimed in a recent interview with “MMAFighting on SBN” that the former two-division champion sent “Do Bronx” a video of him training ahead of UFC 280 and asked him to wait and fight him instead. Lima felt that despite the loss to the Dagestani, it was the right decision to fight Makhachev as McGregor had been out for the past three years.

“It’s like McGregor. Before Makhachev, McGregor was texting [Oliveira] told him to wait and not fight him. They exchanged direct messages. McGregor sent him a video of him training and running on the beach. If we had waited for him, how long would it have taken? We would have been without a fight for three years.” he said.
