CANTON TWP. – The Canton Sports Center will reopen to great fanfare for the spring 2024 season following a $1.2 million renovation project.

The center is located at 46555 W. Michigan Ave. in Canton Township's Victory Park and is a popular sports destination for local softball and baseball leagues as well as national tournaments.

Funded by Canton Township's five-year capital improvement plan fund, the renovations include a new state-of-the-art LED lighting system that will improve illumination and visibility of the 12 on-field softball fields.

The new lighting system will also reduce energy consumption and improve the overall experience for players and spectators.

“The Canton Sports Center is an incredible asset to our community and a highly sought-after sports destination,” said Greg Hohenberger, director of Canton Township Leisure Services. “All of these renovations demonstrate Canton Township’s commitment to recreation and providing opportunities for all ages to participate in baseball, softball, cricket, lacrosse, flag football and more.”

All concrete walkways around the facility, as well as several walkways leading to the 12 softball fields, were replaced during the renovation process. The replacement of additional sidewalks is planned for this fall.

The grand reopening ceremony, scheduled for Wednesday, April 17, will feature Canton Township Supervisor Anne Marie Graham-Hudak and the elected officials of the Canton Township Board of Trustees. The festivities begin at 7:30 p.m
