“Hunter Schafer is confronted with horror in the Neon film”


Hunter Schafer finds out in the first trailer for the horror film that not all European short vacations are particularly relaxing cuckoo.

Neon brings Tilman Singer's feature film into cinemas on August 9th. cuckoo Schafer plays Gretchen, a teenager who gets more than she bargained for after accepting a job from Mr. König (Dan Stevens) at a resort in the German Alps. The cast is rounded out by Jessica Henwick, Jan Bluthardt, Marton Csokas, Greta Fernández and Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey.

“How would you like to work for me at the resort?” Stevens asks in the trailer. Later, Schafer wants to know, “Why did you bring us here?”

Singer (Luz) wrote and directed the film, which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in February and also screened at SXSW. Thor Bradwell, Markus Halberschmidt, Ken Kao, Ben Rimmer, Josh Rosenbaum and Maria Tsigka serve as producers.

In his review for The Hollywood ReporterThe film's chief critic, David Rooney, wrote: “In Schafer and Stevens there are two extremely compelling opponents. Ultimately it's too silly to be truly scary, but with neon behind it, cuckoo might just be enough to get the cult’s attention.”

Schafer is known for his role as Jules Vaughn on the Emmy-winning HBO drama series euphoria. The actress appeared in Lionsgate's 2023 action film The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and can be seen Types of kindnessSearchlight's upcoming anthology from director Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor things), which also stars Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons and Willem Dafoe.

Stevens stars in Warner Bros.' Godzilla x Kong: The New Empirewhich is currently in theaters and also has Universal Abigail Debuting later this month.
