warming trend ahead; 60s possible at the end of next week

It looks like the last significant winter weather may now be behind us. I can't rule out another snowflake or two appearing this spring, but the temptation to remove the snow poles from the Weather Lab driveway is growing.

Our windy Wednesday will give way to calmer weather and more sunshine by Saturday. High temperatures will gradually warm up this week. Highs will return to the 50s across most of Minnesota on Friday.

Saturday brings even milder temperatures. The 60s push further east.

We'll cool off a bit Sunday through next Tuesday or so, with highs generally in the 50s. Then the next wave of warmer air arrives later next week.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Global Forecast System model suggests temperatures in the 60s and lower 70s for southern Minnesota for the weekend of April 13-14.

It's starting to look like real spring in these parts. The tulip shoots that popped up earlier this year could bloom in the next 10 days.
